Privacy Policy
TexBill is billing software that runs on your own computer or phone. The short version: your shop's data stays on your device, we cannot see it, and nothing is uploaded anywhere unless you switch on Cloud Backup yourself.
Who this is
TexBill is a product of [REGISTERED COMPANY NAME], [REGISTERED ADDRESS]. Where this policy says "we", it means that company. Where it says "you", it means the shop that licenses TexBill.
The two products this covers
- TexBill for Windows — the desktop billing counter.
- TexBill for Android — the phone app, which is a separate product with its own licence and its own data.
They do not share data with each other, and neither shares data with us except as described under Cloud Backup below.
What stays on your device
Everything you enter. Your products, prices, stock, bills, customers, suppliers, purchases,
expenses, staff and cash records are held in a single database file on the computer or phone
running TexBill — %APPDATA%\TexBill on Windows, and the app's own private
storage on Android. We have no access to it, no copy of it and no way to read it remotely.
TexBill works with the internet switched off entirely, and that is how most shops run it.
What we do not do
- No analytics. Neither app measures how you use it or reports what you do.
- No crash or diagnostic reporting. Nothing is sent automatically when something goes wrong.
- No advertising, no ad identifiers, no tracking.
- No account. There is nothing to sign up for. Your logins and PINs are stored on your own device and are never sent to us.
- No selling or sharing of data. We do not sell, rent or trade shop or customer data, to anyone, for any purpose.
The camera
The Android app asks for camera permission for one reason: reading a barcode. The reading happens on the phone. No photograph or video is stored, and none is sent anywhere. If you decline the permission, everything else in the app still works — you can search for items by name or use a Bluetooth scanner instead.
Bluetooth
Used only to find and print to a thermal receipt printer you pair yourself. TexBill does not use Bluetooth for location and does not request location permission.
Your licence
A TexBill licence key is a signed file that the app checks on your own device, using a verification key built into the app. Activation needs no internet connection and sends us nothing — not when you activate, and not afterwards. The app does not phone home to confirm that you are still licensed.
When you buy a licence we hold what you would expect a supplier to hold: your shop's name, your contact details, and the invoice. We keep those for as long as the law on business records requires.
Cloud Backup — the one thing that leaves your device
Cloud Backup is a paid add-on, off by default, and it does nothing until the shop's owner switches it on.
When it is on:
- TexBill takes a consistent snapshot of your database and uploads it to our servers, by default about every six hours. That snapshot is your whole shop — including your customers' names, phone numbers and purchase history.
- It travels over an encrypted connection (HTTPS). The app refuses to use an unencrypted address at all.
- It is stored so that you can restore it, and so that the optional phone dashboard can show you your own figures. It is not used for anything else, and it is not combined with other shops' data.
- We can technically read a stored backup, because the phone dashboard has to be able to. We say so plainly rather than implying otherwise. If that is not acceptable for your shop, leave Cloud Backup off — TexBill is fully functional without it, and you can back up to a USB drive or your own storage instead.
- Turn it off, or ask us to delete your backups, and they are deleted. Write to hello@texbillsoftware.com.
Your customers' information
If you record a customer's name or phone number in TexBill, that information belongs to your relationship with that customer, not to us. You decide what to collect and why; with Cloud Backup off it never reaches us at all, and with it on we hold it only to provide the backup and dashboard service to you, on your instruction, and for no purpose of our own.
Children
TexBill is business software. It is not directed at children and we do not knowingly collect data about them.
Changes
If this policy changes we will update this page and the date at the top. A change that affects what leaves your device will be announced in the app as well, not only here.
